Floaters are simply bits of debris that “float” across our field of vision, and can appear in many different shapes and sizes. Flashes, which often accompany floaters, are bright spots of light that look like a camera flash going off.

Eye floaters and flashes are caused by the natural shrinking of the jelly-like fluid in your eye (known as vitreous). This is usually a natural result of aging. However, less common causes of eye floaters can include issues like having blood or inflammation in the eye.

Posterior Vitreous Detachment (PVD) is not as serious as it sounds. This eye condition is a natural change that occurs during adulthood when vitreous gel separates from the retina. PVD is common, especially after age 60, and usually poses no threat to your vision.
